Fun stuff...

So the apartment is coming together. A friend came over last night to help me hook up my receiver - so now I have surround sound again! Now I just have to figure out the remote control and figure out what's wrong with the subwoofer. The remote control is this monstrous LCD touch screen thingy with a billion different settings. The sub is not responding to the sound checks, but I know it's working because it did give a buzz when unplugged and plugged back into the receiver input. I suspect it has to do with the audio settings of the receiver - so I'll have to read that manual to figure out what's going on.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Heathen & Cillic this weekend for The Queen of the Universe's wedding! We will likely head out to neo this Friday for a little while too. So that'll be fun.

It's not a huge deal because it's an in-house conference (i.e., not a national conference or anything), but my thesis was accepted as part of a panel discussion on educational reform issues for the Sociological Society conference on campus. That's the kick in the ass I needed to do some revisions and split apart the entire document into publishable pieces. This, of course, means condensing 60 pages into a 15 minute presentation. I plan to cut out a lot of the background political analysis and focus on the current situation and proposed solutions for Afghan education reconstruction. Even that, in 15 minutes will be tough.

I might even look into what conferences are coming up this next year and submit to some of those. However, travel will be a problem, so I'd probably only submit to local conferences. I can, however submit pieces as journal submissions for various sociology, political science, women's studies, and human rights journals.

Congrats on the panel discussion!
Remotes drive me crazy these days...they seem to have more functions than the average car.
