Feeling helpless

OK, that's overly dramatic. I'm not feeling helpless. I am, however, annoyed that I am too short to change my own kitchen lightbulb. I guess I need a new boy - one that's taller than me. The previous boy was just about my height, so he'd have been no help at all. Must aim for the tall type I guess, for utilitarian purposes :)

I guess I'll have to ask my next-door neighbor across the hall. He's kinda tall (don't say it, he lives with his girlfriend and is not my type anyway). Plus, I don't think I could ever date someone that lived in such close proximity. There would be no sense of boundary or personal space, and then you'd keep running into the person after it ended, which depending on how it ended, could range from awkward to frightening.

I could call and ask my landlord - but seriously - I am NOT that woman. I could call and see if he would be willing to install a different light fixture that's easier for me to change myself. Because of the high ceiling, and the fact that it's an enclosed fixture flush with the ceiling (so the screws are basically an inch or two from the ceiling), it's too high for me to reach.

Ack.

You could get a step-ladder. Then, you wouldn't need to rely on anyone!

I hate needing to ask someone for help. I bought a step-ladder and it does help make me feel empowered.

As another short girl, I feel your angst!

I have a 4 foot stepladder... but it's just not tall enough.

I just had a scary image of you standing on top of a stack of thick, heavy books piled on the top step of your stepladder.

Please don't do this!!!

P.S. I forgot to sign the anonymous comment. It was me.

If a 4 foot step ladder isn't tall enough neither would a tall guy - unless he was like major basketball tall. My god girl how tall is your ceiling?

I'm 5' 2". Plus, you can't stand on the very top step of a step ladder, so it's really only a 3 1/2 foot ladder maybe. 10ft ceiling and the screws at the base of the fixture are flush with the ceiling... A 6 foot guy would do it....

Tall friends (guy/girl) with tools (stepladders) can be invaluable. I have no problem asking my landlord to change the ceiling fixture lights (but then I can hide behind little-old-lady with no ladders). Unexpected advantage - he provides the light bulbs, too - now all but one fixture has the energy-saver bulbs and may not need to have bulbs changed again for years.
